More Bangers n' Mash Episodes

I know I've gotten real bad about posting the podcast episodes to this here blog. Sorry about that. Here's all the new episodes from the previous months.

Here's the episode where JD and I did something a little different and talked about Greek mythology for a while.:

Here's a commentary we did for "Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare." Like all our commentaries, it's both A) a blatant filler episode and B) terrible. Though maybe slightly less terrible than our previous commentaries.

Here's our most recent episode which was suppose to come out around the same time as "Kong; Skull Island" but instead came out two weeks later. Anyway, we talked about the King Kong movies.:

Bangers n' Mash 62: Batman & Robin (1997) Commentary

When JD and I decided to start the Bangers n' Mash Show, I knew there was no hope of us creating a weekly show. Firstly, we both have lives. Secondly, even before starting the program, I knew I would never be comfortable releasing unedited episodes. So we both agreed on two episodes a month as a good number. This schedule slipped wildly in our first year, in which we only put out 9 episodes. We've been doing a lot better since then, mostly meeting our goal. Except usually in January, as previously established. Normally, I let this slid but... I don't know, it would be nice have 24 episodes a year, don't you think?

So that's when commentaries happen. I've complained about them before. I hate recording them. Due to the very nature of the thing, I can't edit them, so all the slips, stuttering, breathing, coughing, snarfing, double-speech, mumbling, and rambling off-topic goes in. This most recent one, at the very least, wasn't interrupted by a phone call or my neighbors doing construction. We also mostly stayed on topic.

Anyway, JD and I talked over "Batman & Robin." He picked the movie. I think we managed to pierce the film's odd camp appeal a little. It's still probably not very good.

Real episode, next time. I promise.

Bangers n' Mash 48: The Thing (1982) Commentary

There's no reason for my co-host and I (mostly I) to work so hard on getting two episodes of the Bangers n' Mash Show out a month. Our listeners, few though they might be, are clearly a patient lot, considering weeks can go by between episodes even within the month.

However, I feel bad about the Ninja Turtles episode being so late, even if it was because of my personal hardware problem. So JD and I got together to record a commentary episode which can be released very quickly because of their very nature. It's for John Carpenter's "The Thing," as requested by one of our listeners. They require usually zero editing, which makes them both a blessing and a curse. A blessing because, again, they can be released immediately. A curse because they sound like shit. All of JD and I's stammering, pausing, unrelated blabbering, and gross mouth-noises has to stay in. Case in point: At one point, the dog barks. And at another time, the phone rings. JD and I ramble off-topic repeatedly and, sometimes, just quietly watch the film. It's terrible and I apologize. Hopefully somewhere in this incoherent two hours, you can gleam something entertaining or insightful.

Anyway, our next one will be better. More reviews and a Director's Report Card coming soon.

Bangers n' Mash 35: Jason Takes Manhattan (1989) Commentary

It's pretty amazing that, concerning the Bangers n' Mash Show, we don't do audio commentaries more frequently. Episode 12, our commentary on the original Frankenstein, is by far our most popular episode, with our Dracula commentary not trailing too far behind. More importantly, with the way I'm always rushing to get two episodes out a month, and with commentaries being so easy, you'd think I'd fall back on them more frequently.

The main reason we don't do them more often is because I hate them. Precisely because they're so easy to do. In order to maintain the commentary atmosphere, I can't actually edit very much of the episode. So all our stammering, mumbling, stuttering, rambling, wandering off-topic, and any other stupid shit that comes out of our mouths stay in. In this latest commentary, the phone even rings out one point. My roommate wanders in a few time, talking. It's terrible and I apologize. During such a busy month for the blog, the podcast becomes a lot harder to keep up with. Hopefully, things will even out more once the Oscars are over.

Anyway, about the movie itself: This time, we're talking over "Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan." I chose this movie mainly because I thought it would be funny for us to comment on it. And it occasionally is, when it isn't being awful.

Our next episode will be better. Probably.

Bangers n' Mash 18: Dracula (1931) Commentary

I consider not even posting this one. The idea behind this was two-fold. First off, our commentary on Frankenstein, a filler episode we recorded back in March, has proven to be one of our most popular episodes. Secondly, I knew I couldn't get another "real" episode out in May and commentaries are easy to record and edit, since they, by their very nature, can't be edited very much.

That second part proved problematic. JD had a little bit of a cold and was coughing and sniffling throughout. Secondly, there was some sort of construction going on next door, so occasionally you hear some ambient banging and squeaking from next door. And then there's just the general fact that this is barely edited, so expect lots of "ums," 'you knows," "likes," stammering, off-topic rambling, and incomplete thoughts.

So sorry for the shitty episode. We'll do better next time, promise.

Bangers n' Mash: Frankenstein (1931) Commentary

We had a real episode planned, one about a topic that I've been wanting to get to for a while and is relevant to current entertainment news. However, neither of us were quite ready for that one so instead we threw something together quickly.

A lot of other podcast cover commentaries for films, some of them doing it exclusively. Watching and talking over one of our favorite films, one that's important to our show's history, I tried to get some decent information and observation in there. While we suceed some times, we frequently fell back and simply pointing out stuff on the screen we've never notice before and wandering wildly off-topic to subjects like Illuminati symbolism (sarcastically), X-Men, Sonic the Hedgehog, other classic Universal monster movies, and unrelated shit like that. Also, if you ever wondered what an almost totally unedited episode of the Bangers n' Mash Show would sound like, now you know. That is, mostly with a lot of silence, hmm-ing, haw-ing, aww-ing, umm-ing, uncompleted half-formed thoughts, and unrelated bullshit. So if you want to know what it's like to watch a movie with two lisping nerds, watch along with us! Real episode next time, promise.
